Kindles on Sale Start From $79 Onwards.
Online, March 27, 2012 (Newswire.com) - It is generally known that the prices of the new Kindles start from $79 onwards. While many people see this as a good deal compared to most other e-readers available in the market, the cheapbookreader.org site has a page dedicated to getting even better deals than this for Kindles on Sale.
Many people who were early adopters of the Kindle 1st & 2nd generation have upgraded to the newer models of Kindles which range from $79 - $199, freeing up their earlier Kindles.
While our reviewers generally do not adopt used models, and would never buy them directly off a user. However, we can safely stand by the ones re-distributed by Amazon for the following reasons:
• The used Kindles in Amazon have to be vetted by Amazon to ensure it is "as-good-as-new".
• They are then given a new 1-year warranty, and eligible for an extended 2-year warranty, just like the new models.
Which models do we recommend?
There are 2 models that our reviewers would recommend if you wish to check out Kindles on Sale. These Kindles have the same stamp of quality and performance as other 'new' models.
1) The Kindle Wireless 2nd generation - 6' wifi & wifi/3G. ($59 - $69)
This is a white Kindle with a 5-way controller. Many people like my mother still prefer this to the newer touchscreen which I have purely because she finds the 5-way controller easier to navigate. It carries all the strong features seen in the newer models, like: E-ink, adjustable font sizes, whisper-sync, sharing functions, and the highlighting feature.
There are also 3 experimental features that are now the standard in the newer models:
a) the browser , b)the read-to-me feature, and c) the music and podcast features. Although they are seen as being "experimental", they work well.
If you are looking for a good e-book reader, or something to give your teenage child or older parents, it is definitely worth a consideration.
The price guide is:
- $59.99 for the wifi model, and
- $69 for the wifi/3G model which gives free 3G use for life. This is the best 3G deal we have seen in the market to date.
2) The Kindle Keyboard wifi - 6' ($79)
This is another model with a very strong performance. The same 'new' model is priced at $139. Once again, it carries all the strong features like: E-ink except it is now E-ink pearl, a font that gives sharper text compared to the earlier e-ink. It also has the adjustable font sizes, whisper-sync, sharing functions, and highlighting features. Included also are the "read-to-me" feature, a web browser and the music/podcast features which are no longer "experimental" features, like in the Kindle 2nd generation model.
This Kindle is particularly popular with users who prefer a keyboard compared to touchscreens and a 5-way controller. The "read-to-me" function is also something many, both young and old alike. It allows them to continue doing other work while listening to a particular section of a book. I have often used this feature when having to read a work document at home, while doing other domestic things. It is indeed one of the best features in the Kindle e-books.
