Katie Melua #1 Billboard Pan-European Album Chart
Online, June 25, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Katie Melua regained the top spot on the Billboard pan-European album chart as her fourth studio album 'The House' knocks Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" off the top spot. 'The House" debuted number 1 on its release 4 weeks ago before slipping to number 2. Described by The Times as "her best yet", 'The House' is produced by William Orbit and sees Katie writing/co-writing eleven out of the twelve tracks. The European success of 'The House' re-confirms Katie's position as a British artist with international appeal. The singer has teamed up with the Madonna's former producer William Orbit, who shot to fame for his work on Madge's Grammy Award-winning album Ray of Light. Melua has already sold more than 10 million albums with hits including 'Closest Thing To Crazy' and 'Nine Million Bicycles.' But she admitted she was surprised when the dance producer expressed an interest in teaming up with her after he quit the industry. "I was so lucky when he heard my new tracks and responded so well to them," "I didn't actually that know he was in retirement and then we sent him the new songs and he got back to us straight away," she added.
After her first album 'Call Off The Search' topped the British charts in 2004, the follow-up 'Piece by Piece' sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide remaining in the Billboard European chart for 60 weeks and in 2007 her third album 'Pictures' maintained her continental dominance when it took the top-spot of Billboard's pan-European chart.
What makes this achievement even more notable is that Katie's albums are released on the small independent label Dramatico Entertainment throughout Europe.
The epic first single 'The Flood', which received high rotation on radio, will now be followed by the July release of 'A Happy Place' and a busy summer of festival appearances and concerts across the continent. UK appearances include Thetford Forest and Chichester Festival and, in December, the UK leg of Katie's extensive European tour.
