Karate World of New Providence Promotes First Black Belts
Online, November 22, 2009 (Newswire.com) - On Saturday, November 14th Karate World held its first Black Belt exam in the school's four year history. Twenty three students earned their first degree Black Belt after a comprehensive examination. The graduates ranged in age from ten year old youngsters to adults in their forties. Graduates were from local towns such as Summit NJ, Berkeley Heights NJ, Chatham NJ, and New Providence NJ.
The Black Belt exam consisted of physical fitness requirements which included a timed two mile run, performance of push-ups and sit-ups and multiple rounds of sparring or "free fighting" while wearing protective equipment. Students were also required to perform their entire martial arts curriculum from beginner to advanced level without mistakes. Children high school age or younger were required to have a "B" average in school as part of their academic requirements.
"Earning the rank of Black Belt at our academy is not easy," said Rich Brugger, who co-owns Karate World with his wife Michelle, "We have very high standards for our Black Belts. These students trained very hard to get to this level and achieve this goal. We are extremely proud of their efforts." Co-owner Michelle Brugger added, "A big part of getting to Black Belt is being able to set and achieve goals. Our hope is that these students can take this skill and apply it in all areas of their lives."
