Palm Beach Low Rider - HIPSTER

Trained in Industrial Design at the world famous Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, Mark Khan the principal of Silverbait Design an award winning exhibit designer, has taken his 30 years of experience (www.silverbait.com ) in the exhibit world and turned to furniture. Pratt had instilled in him a pure desire to create. Coming from the corporate world and designing 50,000 sq ft award winning events for Canon and countless other organizations, the desire to slow down, reflect and focus on everyday items like chairs and tables seems a natural.

"I designed it because I needed it," says Mark. Speaking of his first venture into the furniture world. "I designed the Palm Beach Low Rider because I needed a low sitting bookcase to sit behind my sofa. I had so much fun engineering, sourcing and crafting a series of prototypes that I decided I wanted to start a small furniture company right here in West Palm Beach. So many ideas in my head for years now, so many sketches and scribbles and thoughts that I feel it's time for me to transition into another life phase."

"We are very proud of the Palm Beach Low Rider. We studied the proportions, the usage, the details. We wanted it to really look and feel like a vintage piece. We wanted you to scratch your head wondering if the piece was made 50 years ago but still in great shape. My neighbor Ann tells me that it reminds her of her childhood... we take that as a wonderful compliment."

FUNCTION - The Palm Beach Low Rider is designed to be very functional, with opportunities to fully load with small and large books as well as being a stand or pedestal for presenting precious artwork in your home.   Designed to look and feel like a vintage Mid Century Modern piece, the Palm Beach Low Rider is available in (3) designs and (3) sizes; 3'w, 5'w and 7'wide. The sizes available are certainly not arbitrary since you can (with the exception of a 4' unit) create running lengths of shelving in 1'-0" increments solving most spacial challenges by using combinations of the (3) available sizes.

DESIGN - There are (3) design iterations to the Palm Beach Low Rider: THE X-RAY - The X-ray model beautifully exposes the internal structural supports in fine detail via clear acrylic legs. THE CLASSIC - The Classic model elegantly presents with a striking detail of dimension. Clear acrylic legs encapsulate an internal white sleeve creating dimensional legs that harken back to another time. THE HIPSTER - The Hipster model is an artisan piece. We artfully heat treat copper tube to get gorgeous tones of flaming color. The connection with the wood shelving is pronounced & minimalist.

THE WOOD WE USE - Solid planks of Poplar wood are sourced for the shelving, a cost effective but beautiful wood. Shelves are hand sanded, oiled and waxed to bring out the beauty of Poplar, a very underused hard wood in the furniture world.

"We are very proud of the Palm Beach Low Rider, said Khan. We studied the proportions, the usage, the details. We wanted it to really look and feel like a vintage piece. We wanted you to scratch your head wondering if the piece was made 50 years ago but still in great shape. My neighbor Ann tells me that it reminds her of her childhood...we take that as a wonderful compliment." www.silverbaitfurniture.com.
