Indian Actor Stars in Hollywood Independent Feature Film
Online, August 28, 2010 (Newswire.com) - New York based Indian actor Lavrenti Lopes is set to star in the forthcoming American production "Afghan Hound" from writer-director Brian Alessandro. Co-starring American actor Adam Griffith, "Afghan Hound" has Lopes portraying Afghan immigrant Zemar, a young rug weaver from Kabul whose parents were accidentally killed seven years ago by United States Marines who had mistaken them for Taliban insurgents during America's military campaign in Afghanistan. Troublingly, Zemar and Chris Leeds, the character played by Griffith, never learn whether or not he was the marine responsible for his parent's slaying.
In preparation for his "challenging" role, Lopes learned how to weave rugs and speak in Dari (Afghan Farsi) with an Afghan accent. The story of "Afghan Hound" centers around the Afghanistan debacle, the challenges of multiculturalism in America, guilt, vengeance, and the nature of violence.
The movie also looks at how Asian immigrants adapt to life in America and the sacrifices that they must sometimes make along the way. Afghan Hound is due for release in 2011. Lavrenti also recently wrapped work on a film called Love, Lies and Seeta. He is also slated to play the lead in a film called Desperate Endeavors alongside Gulshan Grover. Fiming for the same begins in October.
Lavrenti is a graduate of the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute. His Film credits include the British Film Festival nominated "Crawling Skin, "Love Proof," and "subHysteria." TV credits include three pilots : "Barely Legal," "Brooklyn Suites" and "Port:80″. His theatre credits include The Seagull, E-Dating, Sa Ka La and Duckwalls.
He has also worked extensively as a print model with campaigns for Axe Deodorants, Best Buy, Daffy's, Microsoft, Zip Car, Flair Pens, Plusbus (London), Comcast, Duane Reade and tons of other fashion and editorial work. He has since done numerous commercials including Bank of America, Cablevision, Trueroots, Migros (Switzerland), Oddset (Sweden), Eclipse Gum (Russia) amongst others.
