Inclusivv Launches Workplace Civility Solutions Amid Heightened Need for Civil Discourse

Inclusivv CEO Jenn Graham Presenting at the 2024 SHRM Annual Conference

As the nation navigates a divisive election season and the subsequent rising tensions, the urgency for civil conversation has never been more apparent. In response, Inclusivv, a mission-driven organization based in Atlanta, is proud to announce the launch of its Workplace Civility Solutions. This initiative is designed to equip organizations with the tools and strategies needed to foster more civility in the workplace that help build cultures of trust, respect and inclusion.

At the heart of this movement is a stark reality: Americans are subjected to 202 million acts of incivility each day, with nearly half of these incidents occurring in the workplace, costing organizations collectively about $2 billion per day in reduced productivity and absenteeism, according to the SHRM Civility Index. With 161 million people in the U.S. heading to work daily, the workplace offers a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change through concerted efforts to promote respect and empathy.

The cost of incivility is profound, leading employees to feel demotivated, stressed and disconnected. But it also has an impact on how customers perceive a company. A recent study found that when customers witness other customers being uncivil to employees, 42% report that the rude behavior changes their perception of the company, 40% question whether they want to do business there again, 65% think the company should better protect its employees, and 45% question the company’s values.

Recognizing the transformative potential of this initiative, Inclusivv has forged a strategic partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a global leader in workplace excellence, with an audience of 340,000 members in 180 countries. Together, Inclusivv and SHRM have developed an array of self-guided resources and videos exclusively for SHRM members, focusing on empathetic leadership, de-escalation techniques, and practical strategies for candid conversations.

“The workplace is one of the only remaining places where we don’t get to choose who we interact with—whether it’s our colleagues, direct reports or customers—and that alone can be a catalyst for conflict, miscommunication, and heightened emotions, especially in an election year, ” said Jenn Graham, Founder and CEO of Inclusivv. “This means there is an opportunity within the workplace to equip employees with the tools and skills to turn conflict into opportunity.”

Inclusivv’s Workplace Civility Solutions, in partnership with SHRM, is leading the charge to bring civility back to the forefront of our national conversation—during the election season and beyond.
