Human Rights Advocates Support Hispanic Community Event

Clearwater, FL, November 5, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Per the United Nations, 2.4 million people are trafficked across the globe for labor and sex. Florida ranks as the second destination for human trafficking in the United States, per a recent report by the University of South Florida.

Cristian Vargas, Executive Director for United for Human Rights Florida Chapter, and his team of volunteers had a booth at the festival. More than 3300 people were provided information on their human rights. This included the booklets “What are Human Rights?” and copies of the award winning documentary “Story of Human Rights”. Booths like this are one of the regular outreach activities put on by United for Human Rights. “The people we met were very receptive and grateful to receive the materials and get informed on their human rights,” said Mr. Vargas, “you could see their need for the information, but also the importance of everyone being made fully aware of these thirty inalienable Human Rights in our society today.”

The United for Human Rights Florida office, located at 29 North Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater FL 33755 in Clearwater’s historic first firehouse, regularly holds seminars for the community to become fully educated on their human rights. The next upcoming seminar will be on November 14th, from 2 – 4 pm, focusing on the human trafficking issue and Human Right Article #4 “No Slavery”. Guest speaker will be Ms. Giselle Rodrigues, State Outreach Training Coordinator of the Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking (FCAHT). Refreshments served.
