HubStor Deploys New Cloud Archive Features, Enhances Data Aware Cloud Storage and Adds Automatic Billing

HubStor invests in customer experience and provides added transparency into its cloud consumption business model.

HubStor Inc., developer of data-aware searchable cloud archiving for business, today announced the company has updated all production HubStor tenants with new cloud storage features that improve its customer experience with more transparency and cloud monitoring.

“Making the cloud more transparent continues to be a priority in the HubStor roadmap,” said Greg Campbell, CTO, HubStor. “This involves continuing our investments in advancing HubStor’s data aware storage to include cloud monitoring for visibility into things like system and user activities.”

As a software-as-a-service offering, HubStor continually adds new features to its cloud archiving platform. Here is a breakdown of HubStor’s latest enhancements in this service update:

Deduplication and Compression Storage Savings

HubStor now shows storage savings from deduplication and compression in its Web-based administrative console to each of its customers. Unlike other cloud storage solutions that perform storage reduction but charge customers on the logical storage size of their data, HubStor calculates its cloud archive storage prices on the physical size after storage reduction features are applied. The space savings from deduplication and compression are calculated automatically and refreshed on a nightly basis. They show the original data size, the data volume size after deduplication, the size after both deduplication and compression, and the total space saved from storage reduction.

Cloud Storage Monitoring Features

Building further on its data aware storage concept, HubStor now includes insights on ingress and egress activity. Ingress is the movement of data into the cloud archive through HubStor’s virtual cloud gateway. Egress is the self-service retrieval activity from HubStor’s cloud archive storage. Both activity types have their own charts showing data volumes by hour and day. Statistics can be displayed by item count or data volume for the entire tenant or by select archive buckets existing within the tenant configuration.

Cloud Consumption Insight

HubStor deploys and operates in the cloud exclusively on Microsoft Azure public cloud infrastructure. Each customer is provisioned with a dedicated tenant. HubStor’s commercial model is exclusively as a volume-discounted markup on the metered cloud costs of each customer tenant. The cloud costs are also referred to as ‘consumption’. Consumption is the total infrastructure cost of the HubStor solution (compute, storage, activity, egress) with HubStor’s markup applied. HubStor now uniquely provides full transparency in its administrative console into both the underlying consumption costs and its markup, which together compose the monthly subscription fee. On a nightly basis, HubStor fetches the consumption data for each tenant and refreshes the ‘Billing’ dashboard now available in its administration console. This enables customers to keep daily tabs on their burn rate within a month.

Charts also show the breakdown of costs between HubStor and Microsoft Azure, and display the consumption-based costs of all previous months.

Automated Billing

HubStor now automatically generates invoices that include a full breakdown of the metered cloud costs from Azure. Each customer’s complete invoice history with HubStor is now available in the console. Customers can download PDF versions of invoices showing a full breakdown of the metered cloud consumption for their HubStor tenant.
