Houston Best Selling Author to Texas Book Festival

American Folktale writer and Houston Texas resident RD Vincent will be at the 21st Annual Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas this weekend Nov. 4 and 5, 2017. The festival, which draws nearly 50,000 readers, will feature celebrity Tom Hanks who will talk about his new book Uncommon Type: some stories. Veteran newsman Dan Rather will also be featured and he will discuss his new book What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism.

During the festival, RD Vincent will be signing books from his series called Donbridge in Tent 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5. The stories, which were told to him by his grandmother while living in the Hudson Valley of New York, span over 5 generations and 225 years of storytelling in his family.

Each story ties to the next while talking of lost princesses, hidden treasure, witches, medicine women and mystical creatures. At the end of the books, readers have the opportunity to make the recipes the characters made during the stories as the recipes are provided. When asked why RD Vincent felt it was important to preserve these folktales he replied, “I wanted to leave a legacy of storytelling for my own children in much the way my grandmother did for me. I feel that we owe it to ourselves as shepherds of this world to listen to our older generations and learn from them. If we don’t take the time to listen, I fear our own history may be lost for good.”

Vincent was recently recognized as a bestselling author by the Authors in Kroger Stores Program and has also made a guest appearance on the TV show Houston Life which is featured on NBC in Houston, Texas. The Texas Book Festival is held on the grounds of the State Capitol Building in Austin, Texas and is free to the public.
