Honda Starts Program to Honor "Green Dealers": Local Norfolk, VA Dealer to Be Analyzed

Honda has recently announced the development of a program entitled "Honda Environmental Leadership Award" which will honor Honda dealerships that reduce their environmental impacts.

Honda is proud to announce that it has recently created a program that will award honors to Honda dealerships that reduce their environmental impacts. The "Honda Environmental Leadership Award" will be given to dealerships who meet certain criteria for reducing waste in various forms.

The first of three levels to be honored by this new award is called the "Silver Level." This level can be earned by dealerships that reduce the total energy usage of the facility by 10%, utilize Honda's recycling program, and develop a water conservation plan.

Honda's "Gold Level" of the leadership award will be given to dealers who not only reduce energy by 10%, utilize the recycling program, and develop a water conservation plan, but also show that they have exceeded the goals of the previous level. This is done by sustaining consistent reductions of energy and waste costs.

Finally, the "Platinum Level" of the award must fulfill all the requirements of the Silver and Gold Levels, but must also receive the US Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificate. Only one dealership in the US has won this honor so far, though 18 additional dealerships have recently applied to be part of the program, and some 200 more have independently enacted some sort of energy conservation program.

Leading the charge in environmental awareness, Honda is rewarding dealerships for environmentally responsible practices. Steve Center, Vice-President of the Environmental Business Development Office, said:

"We've designed this program around what we feel are both meaningful and achievable targets that are well within the reach of most of our 1,300 US Honda and Acura dealers. Our goal is to engage as many of our dealers as possible to reduce their environmental impact in order to have the broadest possible impact in communities throughout the nation."
