Home Helpers / Lockport Joins Local Businesses for May 28 Food Drive Benefitting Lockport Food Pantry

Home Helpers / Lockport helps sponsor the annual Lockport Food Pantry Food Drive on Saturday, May 28, at Rich's Yamaha, 14354 South Archer in Lockport from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lockport area will be rocked with the sound of motorcycles, volunteers, donors and food donations as Home Helpers / Lockport helps sponsor the annual Lockport Food Pantry Food Drive on Saturday, May 28, at Rich's Yamaha, 14354 South Archer in Lockport from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Coinciding with the event is Rich's Yamaha Open House with special motorcycle activities, a showcase of the latest Yamaha models, and Team Chicago's Dan Schmidt, who is planning to capture footage for an upcoming "Team Chicago Challenge" motorcycle racing television show.

Last year, the event filled a pick-up truck with donations of canned food and non-perishables. This year the organizers are hoping to double that effort with the collection of enough food donations to fill two trucks.

"This is just one small way we can help give back to the community," states Ed Kerfin, president of Home Helpers / Lockport. "We have supported events benefiting the seniors in our community since our inception, and now we are able to support the food pantry that assists families in our area. Our business is all about preserving an individual's independence and the most basic need for independence is food."

Also sponsoring this event, in addition to Rich's Yamaha, is the Star Chapter 104, Illinois' oldest motorcycle riding and touring club, and Lindino's Pizza and Beef, donating pizza in exchange for food donations. The Lockport Dairy Queen is donating tokens for free small ice cream cones to the first 100 food pantry donors.

"We are excited to have the food drive at our location again this year," says Mike Venziano, manager of Rich's Yamaha. "It is a very fulfilling event that reaps many benefits to our local food pantry."
