High School Soccer and Rugby Girls Learn to Save Teeth

High school girls in soccer and rugby have access to critical information to save their knees, joints and even teeth from injuries. A youth fitness specialist and dentist team up to deliver hands-on program and lectures for safety.

All it takes is a split-second jab in the face by a foot, knee or elbow and a one can find her smile suddenly not so pleasant. Time and again, local dentist, Dr. Jeffrey Laubmeier of Lakewood sees evulsions (that's when the tooth comes out), cracks (the intact tooth is cracked) and chipped teeth (part of the tooth coming off) as preventable injuries to kids in sports.

On April 16, Dr. Laubmeier is part of a one-day rugby and soccer injury prevention clinic at St. Mary Magdalene Byzantine Catholic Church at 3590 West 220th (church hall). He will explain that for each form of dental injury, quick action must be taken and different strategies for repair are required.

"We see too many preventable sports dental injuries that, if proper measures were taken, would have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars in repair and trauma to the athletes and their parents," says Dr. Laubmeier, a member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry. Braces can also complicate the injury and add expense.

Athletic Revolution, a new youth athletic training company in the Cleveland area, will host the injury prevention clinics on Saturday, April 16. The high school girls rugby clinic will run from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., and for high school soccer girls from 2:00 - 4:15 p.m. The cost is $35 and will involve hands-on learning of proper body mechanics to prevent knee injuries and improve recovery as well as short educational lectures.

Registration is open until April 15, 2010 with limited spaces remaining, call 216-263-4734 or email info@trainingbyliz.com. For more information on Dr. Laubmeier, call 216-226-3084 or visit www.jwldentistry.com.
