Health Secretary To Face Hundreds Of GPs At Health Commissioning Conference On June 15th
Online, June 8, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, is set to update hundreds of GPs on his latest proposals for health service reform at the Commissioning Show 2011 health conference on June 15th.
It will be Mr Lansley's first speech to such a large number of GPs since the end of the "listening phase" of the government's hugely controversial Health and Social Care Bill.
The speech will take place in Wednesday, 15th June at Olympia on the first morning of a two day conference. As the biggest gathering of GPs this year, everyone will want to see how doctors respond to Mr Lansley's keynote speech.
The Health Secretary is expected to set out what he believes is the way forward for health service reform following the government's pause. This speech gives him the chance to communicate directly to a large number of GP's plus hundreds of other health care professionals and the wider public.
After the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg recently announced that the reform bill would be sent back to parliament for further examination, the policy has been in flux, with some reforms already being implemented and others being halted.
Part of the idea behind The Commissioning Show 2011 is to use it as an open platform where these crucial reforms can be debated in full.
Director of The Commissioning Show 2011, Ralph Collets comments; "With PCTs disbanding, and no legislation in place to give GPs the authority to replace them, there is a gaping hole at the heart of the NHS - a £60bn budget with no-one managing it. The Commissioning Show 2011 is bringing together healthcare professionals from across the NHS, including the largest grouping of GP's this year, to propose solutions to this most urgent of issues."
The two day conference runs until Thursday 16th June, and is aimed at GPs and other medical professionals. The programme has been designed to appeal to all those involved in delivering the new healthcare agenda: GPs, PBCs, practice and PCT managers, as well as other stakeholders including secondary care leads, local authorities, and providers from private and not for profit organisations.
Other key speakers include BMA Chairman Dr Hamish Meldrum and Professor Steve Field, Chairman of the Future Forum and Chairman of the NAPC, Dr Johnny Marshall.
