Hawaii Campus Surges Ahead with Spring Enrollment

Wayland Baptist University has experienced an increase in its spring enrollment for 2010 as compared to last year with the popularity of specialized degree programs for the military and adult student

Aiea, HAWAII - Wayland Baptist University - Hawaii has experienced more than a 51 percent increase in their student enrollment for spring over last year due to the increased popularity of specialized degree programs in Applied Sciences and Business Administration, according to Dr. Jeff Barnes, Executive Director and Campus Dean.

Last year, the college celebrated its 30-year anniversary on the island providing working adults the flexibility and resources to obtain an Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Their diverse curriculum includes degrees and majors in Business Administration, Management, Education, Christian Ministry and Public Administration with various locations on the island. WBU-Hawaii was recently chosen by three military publications as one of the country's Military Friendly Schools including G.I. Jobs, Military Times Edge magazine and Military Advanced Education. The school has also been noted as having the most affordable tuition for graduate degrees according to Pacific Business News.

"We've been very pleased with the fact that overall there's been a significant increase of people who are serious about pursuing their educational and career goals," said Barnes. "In large part, this has been the result of many factors. Our programs are more 'transparent' in offering students the ability to customize their degree and design a curriculum that works for their individual needs. Also, the economic conditions have been favorable with the new federal government programs, and our relentless focus on customer service. Our expertise has been in successfully helping the non-traditional students transfer their previous college credits, work or military experience and developing a curriculum for them in getting their degree which they may not have been able to do otherwise."

Barnes noted that the Applied Science program has become increasingly popular with the military due to the significant amount of training which many of the students already possess and are transferrable in getting a degree. Some of the categories included in the Applied Science program of which are there 106 different specialties are: Air and Space Operations Technology, Arabic Language Studies, Cardiopulmonary Lab Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Intelligence Operations, Nuclear Medicine Technology and Satellite Communication.
