Harold S. Parnes M.D. FACR Becomes a Fellow for the American College of Radiology, a Prestigious Honor

Harold S. Parnes M.D. FACR, a radiologist in New York City, has been a double Board Certified Radiologist and Neuroradiologist for many years. Now, he has achieved a high honor in his field, becoming a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, known as a “FACR.” Only roughly 10% of radiologists ever qualify for this honor.

According to the American College of Radiology, this is “one of the highest honors the ACR can bestow on a member in good standing … ACR fellows demonstrate a history of service to the College, organized radiology, teaching and/or research.”

There are multiple ways for a nominee to qualify. A nominee must have provided service to the ACR and/or organized radiology/medicine at national, regional, state or local levels. Alternatively, they could have demonstrated outstanding teaching of medical physics, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology or diagnostic radiology. Significant contributions to radiology literature, science or clinical research also apply. Some candidates meet more than one of these criteria.

The nomination process has many steps. The Committee on Fellowship goes through the credentials and resume of each candidate. Then, some nominations are sent to the ACR Board of Chancellors.

“It’s a true honor to have been chosen as a Fellow. To be recognized by one’s peers and to have been selected by so many colleagues and mentors make it all the more special. From the day I started my professional career, I’ve been proud to provide radiology and neuroradiology services to the community, and I look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come,” said Harold S. Parnes, M.D. FACR.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, Dr. Parnes has also been recognized for his active role in the Kings County Medical Society, organized medicine, Downstate Medical School and Hospital, and the Downstate College of Medicine Alumni Association. He has received numerous awards, gold medals, proclamations and certificates of recognition from the New York State Assembly, New York State Senate, Kings County Medical Society, Academy of Medicine of Brooklyn, Downstate Medical Center, Downstate Alumni Association, the Leading Physicians of the World and the United States Congress.
