SAN JOSE, Calif., December 1, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Today, a group of seven high school students, led by Harker freshman Nathan Liu, announced they will host an online, live concert event, "Tribute to Fallen Heroes", on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, in an effort to raise funds for the families of California firefighters who died in the line of duty. They invite community members to sign up and join the "Tribute to Fallen Heroes" virtual concert at 7:00 p.m. PST on Saturday, December 12, which will broadcast through Facebook Live. Detailed information can be found at www.facebook.com/TTFHmusic.
As we navigate these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued wildfires in California, Nathan and his friends want to contribute their time and talent to host an online event to pay tribute to those fallen heroes and raise funds to provide emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters. Joined by two renowned Master Musicians, Steinway Artist Sandra Wright Shen (piano) and Josh Thurston-Milgrom from Stanford Jazz (bass), Nathan Liu (piano) and other six young artists, including Shayla He (vocal), Ella Yee (dance), Callie Yuan (dance), Vardaan Ghai (guitar), Jerry Li (cello) and Kei Obata (violin), will perform throughout this one-hour online concert with a wonderful musical feast.
The online event will honor the thousands of firefighters risking their lives to battle wildfires burning across the State of California. Those firefighters who gave what President Abraham Lincoln called "the last full measure of devotion" with their heroism and larger-than-life heart to our communities are the true heroes of our time. All funds raised during the online event will benefit the California Fire Foundation, commemorating fallen heroes by offering scholarships to children of fallen firefighters, providing aid to victims of fire or other natural disasters, and providing fire safety resources to underserved communities across California.
"The California Fire Foundation is grateful to be the charity beneficiary for this wonderful event," said Rick Martinez, Executive Director of the California Fire Foundation. "So many communities in our state are suffering due to these unprecedented wildfires, and we are extremely grateful that the Harker School has chosen to support the California Fire Foundation. Their assistance ensures the Foundation can continue supporting California firefighters, their families, and the communities they protect."
"As the flames and smoke from the recent wildfires impacted countless residents of the Bay Area, we at Harker experienced the emotional roller-coaster of the event as Harker families living in the affected areas eagerly awaited news about their homes. Sadly, two staff members' houses were consumed by the fire, but many others were saved thanks to the exceptional effort of the responders. And, more importantly, everyone and every animal was saved," said Brian Yager, Head of School, The Harker School. "Given our school's mission 'to prepare our students to take their place as global citizens,' it is uplifting to see our students take on this project to recognize and support the members of the firefighting community who sacrifice so much to safeguard the people and environment around us, and who, through their efforts, are heroes to all of us."
