Guinness World Record Attempts to Go Up in Flames
Online, April 4, 2014 (Newswire.com) - In an attempt to break two Guinness Book World Records, Chuck Borden is going to set himself on fire, twice. The two records being attempted are for longest run in a full body burn (without oxygen) and longest duration in a full body burn (without oxygen). The two fire stunts will be in conjunction to the one year anniversary of Stunt Camp in Raalte. "I've always liked to do exciting things, which was why stunt work appealed to me in the first place", says Chuck Borden. "30 years ago I took a chance and started doing stunts for films and while it was tough going most of the time, I loved every bit of it". Chuck has been working as a stuntman, stunt coordinator and second unit director for 30 years and has appeared in over 400 films and television shows such as Eraser, Independence Day, Scream 3 and an amazing 13 seasons as a regular stunt performer on the hit TV series Star Trek the Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager.
The current Guinness records are 153 meters run while on fire (full body burn without oxygen) and 5 minutes and 41 seconds for the longest duration on fire (full body burn without oxygen). "It started out as a bit of a joke" says Chuck. "I started talking about it and next thing you know, it was all happening". Guinness Book approved the attempt via email. "When I heard back from Guinness, I was in shock. It finally sunk in that this was really happening", Chuck continued. "While I'm nervous about the stunts, I am very confident in my ability to make it happen". The current record holder for the longest duration on fire, Joe Tödtling from Austria, is expected to be on hand to help. "It's going to be an international affair", says Karin Borden, director of Stunt Camp. Chuck's team of stuntmen is global; coming from the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Ireland and of course the USA. "We have a lot planned and are excited about the record attempts", Karin says. In fact, she is expected to be the one to light Chuck on fire for his duration fire stunt.
The event is being held at Stunt Camp, a facility where people can experience being a stuntman for a day. Other events planned for the day are dance groups, martial arts demonstration, a DJ and a stunt show. Food and drinks will also be available. The current plan is to do the running stunt, around 2 PM and the duration one later that evening at 8:30PM. "The fire looks better when it is dark, so we have decided to do it then. It is also cooler for me, making the attempt more achievable", Chuck says. Stunt Camp is located at Overkampsweg12A in Raalte, Netherlands. Stunt Camp's website has all the information about the facility, as well as the event.
