Groundbreaking Medical Procedures Database for Latin America Launches

Global Health Intelligence (GHI) has premiered a first-of-its-kind database of medical procedures performed in Latin America. Despite the fact that Latin America has more than 20,000 hospitals (compared to 5,700 in the U.S.), there has been relatively little available data about the region’s hospitals. SurgiScope will change that by offering data on thousands of therapeutic, diagnostic and surgical procedures performed in Latin American hospitals.

“Even though Latin America is a robust medical market with lots of growth potential, it’s been difficult for healthcare companies to objectively gauge demand for their products, whether we’re talking pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, medical devices or consumables,” explains Guillaume Corpart, CEO of GHI. “We created SurgiScope to provide companies with hard data that points to specific areas of demand, whether it’s procedure types or medical institutions that perform lots of different procedure types.”

With access available by subscription, SurgiScope allows users to search by procedure or hospital name. So for example, a user could see the hospitals where the most pericardiectomies have been performed and thus find strong sales prospects for equipment or devices used in the procedure, not to mention cardiac medications prescribed as part of the treatment protocol. Users can also drill down to individual hospitals to see which procedures have been performed. With this approach, a user could gauge demand or cross-selling opportunities, all based on what a hospital actually needs, as shown by the procedures it’s performing.

Currently, ShareScope is available for four major hospital markets in Latin America: Brazil (with over 7,800 hospitals), Mexico (with 3,658 hospitals — five times the amount in Canada), Colombia (2,554 hospitals) and Chile (383 hospitals, more than Switzerland or the Netherlands).

SurgiScope joins a suite of analytics services offered by Global Health Intelligence, which includes HospiScope (a pioneering Latin American hospitals database), ShareScope (size/share for LatAm healthcare markets and In-Scope (custom LatAm healthcare market research).
