Gridwise Launches Gridwise Protection to Replace 80% of Lost Wages and Sick Pay for Rideshare and Delivery Drivers

Gridwise, a mobile platform using gig mobility data to help rideshare and delivery drivers maximize their earnings, today announced the launch of Gridwise Protection, a new program that provides income protection and sick leave for rideshare and delivery drivers.

Through its partnership with Kover AI, the Gridwise Protection program protects gig drivers in the event of a collision, hospitalization, and/or deactivation, while also providing sick leave. With the recent passage of California's Proposition 22, which solidifies drivers as independent contractors, these protections are more important than ever.

According to Gridwise data**:

  • More than 60% of rideshare and delivery drivers say they have been unfairly deactivated at some point

  • 72% say there were unable to get reactivated

  • More than 21% of drivers reported working while feeling sick

  • 85% of workers who report driving while feeling sick say they could not take the day off because they needed the money

  • 68.5% said they do not have money saved in case of an accident and they can't work

  • Less than 30% of gig drivers have money saved if they were to get into an accident

Gridwise Protection will safeguard these drivers by paying them 80% of their income while they work to resolve deactivation issues, make collision repairs, and need a sick or personal day. Gridwise Protection also provides 24/7 telehealth support and free legal consultation.

"This option is crucial for drivers as they are lacking benefits as 1099 workers and many of them rely on earnings from these gig services. With the flexibility that most drivers crave comes uncertainty. Gridwise Protection puts drivers' minds at ease by ensuring that even in the case of deactivation, hospitalization, or an immobilized vehicle, they will still have a source of income. Gridwise also ensures drivers can get a much-needed day off when they feel ill, without worrying about getting behind on bills," said Co-founder and CEO Ryan Green.

Since launching in 2017, Gridwise has expanded nationwide, empowers over 200,000 drivers, and has tracked over $2 billion in rideshare and delivery driver earnings.

Drivers who download the Gridwise app can track their mileage to maximize tax deductions, analyze earnings across different rideshare and delivery services, and use real-time data to decide when and where they should go to generate the most income possible.

The Gridwise platform is powered by crowdsourced data from a network of 200,000 drivers combined with data from third-party APIs sources, including weather, local news, traffic, and social media.
