Greater Phoenix Urban League (GPUL) To Celebrate Anniversary With Open House
Online, September 22, 2010 (Newswire.com) - This year marks the National Urban League's 100th anniversary of service and the Greater Phoenix Urban League's 65th year of service; as a way of celebrating, the Greater Phoenix Urban League is inviting the residents of the greater Phoenix area to an Open House scheduled for Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 10am-4pm.
100 years ago on September 29, 1910, the National Urban League (NUL) was founded as a civil rights organization and throughout the years, the NUL and its affiliates have aided millions of African Americans and other minorities in achieving success in bridging racial, social and economic disparities. The successful programs and advocacy as well as various national events have continued to keep the historic NUL in the social services industry. Since 1945, GPUL has been able to carry out its mission through advocacy, bridge-building, program services and research. The result of dedication and hard work through GPUL's 65 years of service is not only illustrated by the success of its programs, but also the impact and recognition in the community.
"Our programs, services and events are designed to bring people together for fellowship, education, and bridge-building, while enhancing the visibility of the GPUL within the community at large," said George Dean, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Urban League. "Our next major fundraising event is our annual golf tournament in November and we are anticipating a fantastic turn-out."
This year's Open House will not only offer a "meet and greet" between the GPUL staff and the community, but will also offer a tour of the newly renovated GPUL facility, a short video on the history of the NUL and GPUL, and the opportunity to get involved through membership, volunteering or signing up for programs. Light refreshments will be provided as well.
