North American Spine, innovators and exclusive providers of the minimally invasive AccuraScope procedure, appeared today on Great Day Houston on KHOU-TV. "I've met over 20,000 spine-pain sufferers," Bailey says. "My own personal experience has been literally life changing."

The 55-year-old Bailey underwent the AccuraScope procedure to treat a painful bulging disc and scar tissue. "I couldn't sleep and my mobility was limited," Bailey says. "Over-the-counter medicines and prescription medication did not touch the pain."

Unlike conventional open back surgery and other spinal procedures, the minimally invasive AccuraScope procedure does not cut through healthy tissue, muscle and bone. "The damage done during spinal surgery can often be more of a predicament for the patient than the back pain they're trying to alleviate," Bailey says.

During the 30- to 45-minute outpatient AccuraScope procedure, physicians access the spinal canal through a three-millimeter incision into the sacral hiatus - a natural opening at the base of the spine. A thin tube equipped with a high-definition camera and laser is then inserted into the small opening. "The physician is able to see in color and in real time what is actually causing the patient's back pain - problems that may not even show up in an MRI - and correct them in one procedure," Bailey says. "We can get into the facet joints, treat herniated and bulging discs, stenosis of the spine, degenerative disc disease, any problems associated with lower back pain."

Patients are typically released one hour after the procedure, walk the same day and return to normal activity within one week. Bailey's AccuraScope procedure has dramatically changed his life. "North American Spine's ability to visualize the source of pain and treat it simultaneously has eradicated all my pain," he says. "I don't take any medication. I sleep all night and my overall health is improving."

To date, North American Spine's partner physicians - all board-certified specialists in interventional pain management - have performed more than 5,000 AccuraScope procedures. Individuals who want to know more about the minimally invasive AccuraScope procedure can tune in to Great Day Houston at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29 or visit www.northamericanspine.com.
