Goggle-free 3D visualisation technology launched for medical industry
Online, March 4, 2010 (Newswire.com) - The world's first commercial 3D visualisation solution developed expressly for the medical industry is being showcased at ECR 2010, Europe's leading imaging congress, in Vienna, Austria, March 4 - 8.
The SETRED MD20-3D Display and Samurai 3D Medical Imaging Software enables surgeons, radiologists and other medical professionals to view more patient images at one time than ever before without the need for special googles or headgear. The groundbreaking Setred technology offers medical professionals the potential to save time, reduce errors and improve certainty of surgical interventions.
The SETRED 3D Visualisation technology comprises two unique elements. The first is a 20-inch workstation display that acts as a digital hologram. The second is the Samurai interactive software for volume visualisation of medical images, which works with any DICOM-compatible datasets, including CT, MRI, PET, 3D Angiography and 3D ultrasound.
Developed by Nordic technology innovators Setred, the unique 3D visualisation solution, is a pioneering approach giving true depth medical imaging experience without the use of glasses to enhance diagnosis, surgery planning and surgery navigation.
"Giving users a more intuitive view of the data than traditional 2D displays, the unique Setred 3D visualisation technology can be applied to a variety of clinical applications, including neurosurgery, radiology, interventional radiology and cardiology," says Thomas Ericson, Setred Co-Founder and Medical Product Director.
The SETRED MD20-3D display and Samurai medical imaging software is now being launched commercially after successfull testing at the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualisation (CMIV) at Linköping University, Sweden, and Rikshospitalet University Hospital, in Oslo, Norway.
Apart from the benefits of its clinical applications, Setred's technology can easily be integrated speedily and cost efficiently with third-party software solutions. Setred's software is also designed to work as an effective
prototyping platform for research centres performing advanced visualisation R&D.
