GO PUCK & eV Race Systems Combine Talent to Set New Pikes Peak Electric Vehicle Record

Blake Fuller with the help of the eV Race Systems team set a new Pike's Peak record in their GO PUCK Tesla Model S race car.

The GO PUCK Tesla Model S set a new record for production electric vehicles during the 2016 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). Driver Blake Fuller’s time of 11:48 beat the previous 12:55 record by more than a minute.

The GO PUCK Tesla Model S is the first Model S to be transformed into a race car and the first appearance of the Model S at Pikes Peak. Entered into the production class, the GO PUCK Tesla Model S utilized the factory based battery and drivetrain systems to meet the qualifications for an official record to be set. To prepare for competition, modifications were centered on safety and weight reduction of the factory components. With their experience in electric motorsports and specifically with Tesla vehicles, eV Race Systems' Technical Director Rudi Tuisk and his team were able to provide recommendations for the record setting run.

Fuller’s status as a revolutionary in the battery industry makes him an indispensable part of motorsports behind the scenes. In 2001, he developed a new battery for his 2002 race winning hill climb vehicle that was 80% lighter than the car’s original battery. In the decade since, "Batteries by Blake" have powered championship winning vehicles, including NASCAR, F1 and every IndyCar. He is no stranger to victory in top­level racing competition. Fuller earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1999 at the PPIHC and won the prestigious Open Class in 2002 along with 100’s of podiums finishes in all levels of professional motorsports since.

About Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC)

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest motor sports race in America and a long­standing tradition in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. First competed in 1916 and 2016 marks the 100th Anniversary & 94th Running of the “Race to the Clouds.” The race is run on a 12.42 mile course with 156 turns that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,115 foot summit of America’s Mountain; Pikes Peak! As the drivers climb toward the summit, the thin air slows reflexes and saps muscle strength. The thin air also robs engines of 30% of their power at the summit.
