GHF Short Bond Fund Set To Rocket On Rate Rise

Fixed income specialists at GHF Hedge Funds have signaled to clients a recommended shift in their portfolio weighting from long to short bond holdings as rates are expected to rise.

An option for less aggressive investors would be the balanced fund which tracks 60% equities and 40% bond and money market investments. The safety of this mix is offset, however, by the muted returns as the economy heats up.

As bond yields are near to their lowest historical levels, bond prices are at their highest level ever. Bonds have been in a bull market for nearly 30 years, starting back when five-year T-notes yielded a now unheard of rate of 16%. Even with the US Fed announcing its intention to buy up T-bills, the writing is clearly on the wall.

Timing is key. Most street analysts are neutral on bond positions as there is little likelihood of a fast recovery. By the time they advise investors to get out of long positions, much of the value will be lost. For those with the foresight and patience, stocking up on the short bond fund now will yield maximum returns.
