Get Hooked On Self Catering With Free Fishing

The trout fishing season is looming in Scotland. Now is the time to book a week in a self catering property within the loch district of Scotland. Search for cottages offering free fishing from the owners land

With over 31 400 lochs in Scotland, the central region is a good place to look for a cottage with fishing rights. Consider the gateway to the Highlands where Stirlingshire and Perthshire meet within The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. All roads lead to more lochs, forests and mountains from here. Choose a cottage where owners have riparian rights enabling guests to fish from their land without a permit or rod licence.

Kim and Fraser Proven own Briar Cottages on the banks of Loch Earn in the village of Lochearnhead. Fraser said "We have an ideal location for people who are passionate about fishing and for anyone who wants to try it out. Loch Earn is a popular venue for brown trout, though salmon, eels, arctic char and rainbow trout have been landed in our garden too. Fly fishing is fine however most fish appear to be caught with maggots and a float " The Provens have a 250ft loch garden with a summer house, picnic tables, a jetty and a slipway. "Guests can launch a small boat or canoe and moor here and there is plenty of room for cars and boat trailers" said Kim.

Fishing is free from the Proven's garden though a permit is needed to fish on the water from a boat. Permits are sold in the Lochearnhead shop and post office along with bait, and floats. Tackle can be hired. Fishing boats with an outboard motor are available from Drummond Estates boat hire two miles from the cottages.

Briar Cottages self catering consists of two holiday cottages within three acres of private landscaped gardens. Briar Steading is a luxury 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage with a generous open plan lounge and woodburning stove. Glass doors lead from the lounge and both bedrooms on to the patio with exceptional views south over Loch Earn, a 15th century castle and the hills surrounding Glen Ample. Not everyone wants to wild camp on a fishing holiday and this would suit those who enjoy a little luxury or home from home comfort for themselves, partners, friends and family. Little Briar Cottage is a charming, compact and dog friendly cottage with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, enjoying similar views south. Both cottages sleep a maximum of four people. The cottages are 60 metres apart with their own garden area and BBQ and are 60 metres from the loch garden.

Loch Earn is very central within Scotland with roads leading to other nearby lochs like; Loch Lubnaig, Loch Doine, Loch Venacher, Loch Tay and Loch Awe. The location is perfect as a base for touring other popular towns and villages and is excellent for other outdoor activities like cycling, walking, golf and water sports.

The fishing season starts on March 15th and runs through to October 6th 2011. If you or others in your holiday party are keen on fishing and have not planned accommodation yet, then test the water in holiday accommodation like Briar Cottages, Lochearnhead before others hook on.
