Gagen MacDonald Welcomes Senior Consultant Craig Smith to Strengthen Employee Engagement, Organizational Transformation, Culture Change and Leadership Capabilities

Strategy execution firm Gagen MacDonald has hired Craig Smith as a senior consultant to serve clients in the areas of employee engagement, organizational transformation, culture change and leadership. With more than 30 years of experience at large companies, Smith brings deep corporate expertise to enhance the firm’s capabilities.

“Craig brings an important perspective as he has ‘walked in our clients’ shoes for three decades. He has great empathy and understanding for their experience and the complexity they face, as well as how hard it is to drive change from the inside-out in Corporate America today,” said Gagen MacDonald President Sherry Scott.

He brings to Gagen global, multi-industry experience in internal communication, change communication, employee engagement, corporate vision definition  and employee value proposition development. Before joining Gagen MacDonald, Smith served for three years as head of internal communications for Travelers Insurance. At Traveler’s, he developed the company’s first enterprise internal communications strategy and oversaw the creation of its new intranet.

In prior roles, he led a wide range of communication work including re-positioning the internal communication function at The Hartford into a strategic team of business partners and trusted advisers, leading communication for its organizational transformation, and developing the company’s vision. He developed Accenture’s first employee value proposition and an internal communication strategy for its India operations, as well as pioneering the use of webcasts to connect the widely-dispersed global HR organization. He was responsible for employee communications at UK electricity generator National Power during a period of power station closures and large-scale layoffs and led teams that created award-winning publications at BP and Accenture.

Smith, who recently relocated to Chicago, holds a bachelor’s degree in politics and parliamentary studies from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

Founded in 1998, Gagen MacDonald is a woman-owned consulting firm focused on employee engagement, culture change, and leadership for many of the world’s largest brands. Throughout its 19-year history, the company has undergone several quantum leaps to remain on the cutting edge of accelerating organizational change.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Gagen MacDonald for many years as a client, and I’m thrilled to join the firm as it continues to grow,” said Smith. “My passion is developing strategic internal communications initiatives that deliver business results, and I’m looking forward to partnering with our clients to help them increase the effectiveness of their communication programs.”
