Frank Pine named Executive Editor of the Los Angeles News Group

Frank Pine, a respected journalist and editor with a wealth experience in curating content for both print and digital platforms has been named Executive Editor of the Los Angeles News Group. Pine will oversee the daily operations of all Los Angeles News Group newsrooms, including daily and weekly print publications, websites, digital products and social channels.

Pine, 44, has spent nearly two decades with the Los Angeles News Group, most recently as managing editor of digital news for LANG and director of audience development for Digital First Media, LANG’s parent company.

“Frank has been a mainstay at the Los Angeles News Group for nearly 20 years serving in key roles locally and for corporate over the past several years,” said Ron Hasse, President and Publisher of LANG. 

“I’m confident in Frank’s ability to carry on the tremendous work that is underway at LANG, “ Hasse said. “Frank’s knowledge of the challenges facing Southern California, his highly regarded journalistic pedigree and his comprehensive understanding of digital platforms and audience development make him well-suited to lead the Los Angeles News Group content teams during this transformative time.”

Since July 2014, Pine has led LANG’s audience growth and engagement team, which has developed and implemented initiatives that have resulted in significant growth in traffic to LANG’s news websites as well as increased engagement on social media platforms. The team was a finalist for the Associated Press Media Editors innovator of the year award.

Pine has previously served as editor and general manager of LANG’s inland news group and editor of the San Gabriel Valley News Group. He began his career in local journalism at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in 1996.

Under Frank’s leadership, the newsrooms in the inland division have been recognized by state and national organizations for excellence in journalism, including a Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalism for public service for coverage of public safety in San Bernardino, a Sigma Delta Chi award for non-deadline reporting for coverage of border security and National Headliner Awards for news series for coverage of gang violence in Pomona and for reporting on immigration.
