Former Foster Child and Founder of the "Personal Growth Literacy Program for Foster Youth" Graduates With PhD

Capri Cruz, a former foster child, now retired U.S. Navy veteran, author of From Foster Care to FABULOUS: An Imperative Movement, and founder of the "Personal Growth Literacy Program for Foster Youth" has something new to add to her ever growing resume: PhD Graduate.

As the self-proclaimed Moses of her people, author Dr. Capri Cruz chooses to live her life as a template from which other foster youth and alumni can gain wisdom in order to create their own path from "Foster Care to FABULOUS". Dr. Cruz, who was born into the slums of the Lower East Side of NYC, found her way as an abused and homeless teen to becoming a high school drop out in the 10th grade. Today, she has defied the odds and is now a PhD. She hopes that her life will be a legacy for others to use as a guide as she continues to challenge the limits of stereotypes and her own creative thinking.

Her journey to PhD has taught her that, "The only thing that holds us back in life is our delay in learning to think larger, grander, and more deeply. When we learn to control our thoughts, a world of healing and expansiveness opens up to us".
