Foodshare Receives $1500 from the Wintonbury Art League
Online, May 9, 2011 (Newswire.com) - As the regional food bank and local affiliate of Feeding America, Foodshare distributes 16 tons of food each day to 300 local nonprofit organizations. These organizations help 128,000 people in our region who are at risk - including 10,000 seniors, the working poor, and 50,000 children - get some of the food they need each day. Most of the food is donated by food companies, including manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and local farmers. But financial support is also needed to help cover the costs associated with transporting and distributing more than 12 million pounds of food each year!
This support, in particular, provided by the Wintonbury Art League will help Foodshare provide food assistance for our hungry neighbors. Len Schaller, Treasurer of the Wintonbury Art League, presented the check to Gloria McAdam, Foodshare's President & CEO. With membership on the decline, they opted to donate some of the extraneous funds to help those in need. The Art League meets monthly and is made up primarily of local painters.
