Flash Flood Warnings Swept Southern Nevada Late Last Week
Las Vegas, NV, September 16, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Sept. 10 and 11 brought on unexpected showers over the Las Vegas valley. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Southern Nevada.
Moapa Valley was the most affected by the Tropical Storm Norbert. The flooding caused damage to hundreds of homes and even washed away parts of the I-15. Meteorologists only expected there to be a 50 percent chance of rain.
Southern Nevada residents are not the only ones affected by this rainstorm. Phoenix and parts of Southern California also experienced heavy rainfalls that caused flooding.
The rain lasted longer in California, raining down on residents up through Sunday.
A man stated to the media that after flying into LAX, he was forced to stay the night in a cramped shelter. He explained that there was no air conditioning because power lines had fallen down.
Emergency personnel were rushed to the scene to treat over 100 people for minor injuries from falling objects. So far no deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
The US National Hurricane Center recorded wind speeds up to 65 mph during the storm. About 6 to 12 inches of rain had fallen over the city. Residents claimed the flooding the worst they’ve seen in years.
Another rainstorm is expected to sweep throughout the Vegas valley in the next upcoming days. The heavy rains appear to be moving east. Forecasters expect it to move through Las Vegas this Thursday then move toward Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
