Film Says "Dealers Won't Tell You the Truth About Drugs"

Whether they live in New York, Moscow or South Africa, kids often think they know about drugs. But after watching the Foundation for a Drug-Free World videos, they usually realize—they didn't have a clue.

Kids often think they "know all about drugs" but they really don't have a clue. The Truth About Drugs program gets through to them with facts, so they do understand what drugs are and what they do.

A volunteer from the Pretoria, South Africa, chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free world explains why the Foundation’s Truth About Drugs program is effective.

“Students have a lot of information about drugs,” he says, “but most of it is false.”

Key is presenting the truth about drugs in a way that will get them to listen, he says. The Foundation’s “They Said, They Lied” public service announcements accomplish this by showing the destructive effects of the most commonly used drugs through contemporary, high-impact scenarios and images aimed directly at youth.

In the feature-length documentary, former drug addicts explain how they began to experiment with drugs and how fast they became addicted. They give graphic examples from their own lives of the devastating effect the drug had on themselves, their families and their friends.

There are several common messages nearly every one of the former addicts expresses in the film:

  • No one sets out to become a drug addict.
  • Drug pushers will say anything to get you to experiment with a drug.
  • If they had any idea what would happen to them, they would never have started.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a secular nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

The curriculum is not only effective, it is also designed to be easy to learn and use. And the Truth About Drugs materials are available free of charge.

Scientology Churches offer drug education training to anyone wishing to learn to use this program and urge parents, mentors and community leaders to help end the drug epidemic by using the Truth About Drugs in their churches, schools or community programs.
