the Faith In Action 2010

Oakland, CA, May 15th 2010 -The Faith In Action Conference located at the Allen Temple Baptist Church at 8501 International Blvd, is a free all day event including workshops, a youth summit and live performances by Ise Lyfe, R.E.I.G.N., J-Red, and Jus B Cuz. The goal is to provide members of the community with tools to reduce the violence in our communities.

The event kicks off with a breakfast, followed by workshops led with special guest speakers Bishop Jerry Macklin (Glad Tidings C.O.G.I.C) and Dr. Shawn Ginwright (Professor of African American Studies/Public Policy of California State University. The workshop are followed by a special youth summit on "What Can We Do To Stop The Violence in Our Communities" and a Live Concert featuring Ise Lyfe, Comedian J- Red, R.E.I.G.N. and Jus B Cuz.

This event has been developed in partnership with local community organizing groups: BOCA (Berkeley Organizing Congregations for Action) and OCO (Oakland Community Organizing). Both these groups have been working diligently around issues of healthcare, affordable housing, education, immigration, and violence prevention. It was through engagement with local communities that this conference was developed. All of the speakers and workshop topics directly relate to issues that matter to the people of Oakland, Berkeley and the greater East Bay. Both BOCA and OCO are affiliates of the national community organizing effort, PICO (People in Communities Organizing). PICO is one of the largest grassroots organizing efforts in the country.
