FACT Chief Medical Officer to Reveal New Accreditation Standards in "Share the Science" Presentation

Lenexa, KS, March 18, 2016 (Newswire.com) - ​​​Dr. Phyllis I. Warkentin, chief medical officer for the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), will present “A First Look at the NetCord-FACT 6th Edition Cord Blood Standards.” Dr. Warkentin’s presentation is part of the “Share the Science” webinar series sponsored by Mediware Information Systems, Inc., provider of Transtem™ cellular therapy software, and Save the Cord Foundation.

FACT, co-founded by the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT) and the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT), is a nonprofit accrediting organization serving the cellular therapy field. Every three years, FACT leaders review its accreditation standards and update them as needed based on scientific advances, recommendations from cord blood banking experts, and common deficiencies. The new standards will be published in July, but in this original webinar, Dr. Warkentin will preview some of the significant changes, detail why those changes were made, and provide recommendations for complying with the new standards.

Dr. Warkentin has been FACT’s chief medical officer since the organization’s inception. She is also a professor of pathology/microbiology and pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Medicine and serves as the medical director at UNMC’s Biologics Production Facility. In addition, Dr. Warkentin is board certified in pediatric hematology/oncology and transfusion medicine and is a founding member of the FACT board of directors.
