Accountability is one key trait that Sara looks for in every candidate. “You must be able to trust a team member’s word,” she added. “All the talent and charisma in the world won’t mean much if you can’t count on someone to follow through on important tasks. I like to include small assignments during the application process that require attention to detail. If a candidate doesn’t complete them or does a sloppy job, those are major red flags.”

 Sara also tries to gauge each candidate’s passion for the position and the industry. This can be challenging to do, but she believes it is possible with close observation. She explained, “When I ask candidates what kind of work interests them, I look for signs of genuine enthusiasm. Those who have passion for the job will let me know through their words and gestures.
