Enel Launches Crowdsourcing Campaigns to Unearth Ideas for Smart City Solutions and Disruptive New Technologies for the Global Energy Market
Multinational energy firm uses the InnoCentive Open Innovation Marketplace to drive innovation for renewables and sustainability
LONDON, August 6, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Enel has launched two new crowdsourcing campaigns that aim to capture ideas for new smart city solutions based on open data and to transform innovation into future solutions for the global energy market. The global energy provider is using InnoCentive to promote these challenges to InnoCentive’s global network of around 500,000 expert problem "solvers," comprised of engineers, Ph.D. students, CEOs, start-ups, scale-ups, scientists and business leaders.
Enel is currently running two challenges:
The New Smart City solutions enabled by Open Data challenge is looking for ways of leveraging open data to create or improve smart cities, with a focus on ideas around public lighting, architectural lighting evolution, urban mobility, and city analysis.
The ReShape: a global call for the energy transition challenge is focused on transforming innovation into future solutions for the global energy landscape and the new needs emerging around the world. This can include digitalization, automation, and remote working processes, and Enel is seeking ideas from solvers, startups, and SMEs on challenges in six categories:
1. Applying automation to renewable plant construction
2. Ensuring rapid sanitisation in field operations and external spaces
3. Increasing employees’ safety and ensuring correct distancing and traceability
4. Providing remote site visits for Enel X’s industrial & residential customers
5. Fostering Enel customers’ digital experience
6. Improving Enel’s end-user profiling
“The partnership between Enel and Innocentive once more testifies the importance of crowdsourcing as a powerful and effective way of gathering and developing ideas,” said Ernesto Ciorra, Enel’s Chief Innovability Officer. “Enel, as a world leader in energy transition, innovates to make itself more sustainable and resilient and, to reach this goal, we need the best minds to contribute with their cutting-edge concepts. Thanks to InnoCentive and openinnovability.com, Enel has collected more than 5,000 proposals from over 100 countries, remarking the Group’s commitment in creating value for its stakeholders by growing new ideas and encouraging cooperation.”
Enel first partnered with InnoCentive in 2015. Under the agreement, InnoCentive and Enel run challenges that can help Enel deliver operational efficiency and industrial growth as well as create shared value for Enel and its stakeholders, with the final aim to support Enel in its achievement of UN Sustainability Development Goals.
Enel has a history of delivering innovative solutions that meet society’s changing needs, from renewables to sustainability. Through its openinnovability.com crowdsourcing platform, Enel connects people and ideas from across the world, encouraging anyone to propose innovation projects and solutions that help develop local communities.
In July 2020, InnoCentive joined forces with idea management firm Wazoku, creating the world’s most comprehensive and powerful innovation platform and community. InnoCentive has a global network of solvers and has a 75% success rate in solving challenges on behalf of its global clients.
“The collective brainpower and expertise of the InnoCentive solvers can deliver solutions to the most technical of challenges,” said Simon Hill, CEO, Wazoku. “These Enel challenges can be transformative for society and sustainability and it’s a really interesting campaign for the solvers to be a part of.”
The New Smart City solutions enabled by Open Data challenge closes on Sept. 10, while the ReShape: a global call for the energy transition challenge closes on Sept. 30.
