Online, February 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - ENDORSE is a European funded research project focused on the protection of personal data stored in different information data systems. The project will develop a software platform that allows companies to check the compliance of their systems with respect to data protection legislation.
The ENDORSE project includes research and industrial partners from the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, Spain, Austria and Ireland. The ICT research center CREATE-NET is one of them.
ENDORSE aims at filling the existing gap between the users' right to privacy and the difficulties in applying norms on the current information data systems. The project will develop a privacy rule definition language which can be used by companies to specify their internal business rules enforced in their systems. The ENDORSE platform can perform compliance tests against the appropriate European directives together with national legislative implementations. At the end of the project, the language, and the toolset to create legally compliant privacy policies will be released as open source.
At the same time, ENDORSE will make easier for organizations to show to their customers how their data is used. Customers can log into a website and retrieve through an ENDORSE audit tool these details. ENDORSE will develop a certification methodology to attest companies that are ENDORSE-compliant. In this way, users will get to know which companies and organizations are to be trust with their data and respectful of the privacy right.
During the developing phase, preliminary testing of the ENDORSE platform will be conducted within two partners of the consortium: Europe Assistance, a medical insurance company which manages medical data related to customers' health and SeeComms, a start-up web based organization which provides voice and video communication services.
