Mr. Eyad Darawsheh (Managing Director, Alpha Publishing), Dr. Hassan Ismail Fares (Chairman of the Board of Directors, Egypt for Education Management Organisation), Dr. Amani Al-Far (Executive Manager, Egypt for Education Management Organisation)

It has been announced that Alpha Publishing (UK) group has signed a protocol with the Egypt for Education Management Organisation, who have their GCC headquarters in Dubai, to train teachers with the Nile Egyptian Schools in accordance with international standards.

As the official body responsible for the management and operation of the Nile Egyptian Schools project, which is 100 percent funded by the Government to the value of 2 billion Egyptian pounds, the Egypt for Education Management Organisation is charged with the task of ensuring the project’s teachers achieve the highest levels of professional performance.

The Organisation’s vision is that, when fully trained, the Nile Egyptian Schools’ teachers will serve as role models at local and regional level. Now, in a significant move towards achieving that goal, the Management Organisation has signed a protocol with the UK educational group, Alpha Publishing.

The protocol, signed on Thursday, April 4 in Cairo, by Dr. Hassan Ismail Fares, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egypt for Education Management Organisation and Mr. Eyad Darawsheh, Managing Director of Alpha Publishing, engages Alpha Publishing with the ambitious tasks of providing face-to-face teacher training, e-learning expertise as well as developing and providing educational curricula in a number of subject areas including English, Mathematics and Science.

The training drive comes as part of the Egyptian State’s 2030 vision and requires Alpha Publishing, in partnership with the Egypt for Education Management Organisation, to develop and implement a face-to-face teacher training program along with the provision of high-quality curriculum packages for English Language, Mathematics, Science, French Language, Arabic Language and Computer Sciences.

The signing of the protocol by Dr. Fares and Mr. Darawsheh is part of the President’s plan to expand the Nile Egyptian Schools model whose centers are located in Sadat City, New Aswan City, New Luxor, New Damietta City, Shorouq City, Sheikh Zayed City, and New Cairo (Al-Andalus and Jasmine).

The Nile Egyptian Schools offer a breakthrough educational curriculum designed to ensure Egyptian students and teachers meet the latest local and international accreditation requirements.

“We are anticipating educational institutions which provide a new, distinguished and high-quality educational model at the national and regional level,” explained Dr. Hassan Fares to an audience at the Ministry of Education in Cairo.

“We want a model which, at its core, is based on participation by and engagement with, parents and the community. This is the best way to manage and achieve our objectives of giving every student a globally recognized certificate equivalent to the international certificate.

“Our aim is to develop students who are knowledgeable, skilled and professionally qualified, ready to engage directly with the labor market or academic environment either locally or internationally.

“We want them to be developed in an education system distinguished by its high international standards and Egyptian identity. We want to develop our educational and administrative environment so that they keep abreast of scientific and technological developments, and so that our curricula continually develop in accordance with the latest global trends in teaching and learning as well as community and environmental services. It is our intention that these developments will support our schools’ competitive position and achieve a high level of satisfaction throughout society,” he concluded.

Sherine Hamdy, Head of Sector of the Office of the Minister of Education, confirmed that the Nile Egyptian Schools’ curriculum is based on the implementation of this new educational model. She emphasized the need for experienced and highly-trained teaching staff, supported by a society, which is equally aware of the challenges of the labor market.

There was also a desire and need to develop responsible and effective citizens and deepen our students’ sense of Egyptian identity and loyalty to the country, she said.

Dr Amani Al-Far, Executive Manager of the Organisation, said the Nile Egyptian Schools aim to serve those middle-class parents who cannot enroll their children in schools with high annual expenses.

She underlined the fact that these schools also qualify students for admission to top-ranking international universities.

According to Eyad Darawsheh, Managing Director of Alpha Publishing, today’s signing of the protocol is confirmation of his company’s commitment to supporting and training teachers in Egypt.

“We are very grateful to the Ministry of Education & Technical Education, Egypt and to the Egypt for Education Management Organisation for the opportunity to be here,” said Mr. Darawsheh.

“Our company’s strategy is rooted in providing educational resources which will best help teachers to reach international standards. We believe today’s partnering with the Egypt for Education Management Organisation falls within the Ministry of Education’s 2030 vision and plan to empower teachers to keep pace with the digital transformation in education.”

“The forward-looking training program to be established will deliver advanced teacher training techniques. In turn, we hope that the results of this training program will contribute to the development and education of our future generations and communities by providing the labor market with a generation of knowledgeable, skilled and innovative students and leaders who can create new industries and jobs in Egypt and the region,” said Mr. Darawsheh.

His words were echoed by Kevin MacDermot, head of ELT (English Language Teaching) with Alpha. “Technology is evolving and education, in terms of both students and teachers, must evolve with it. What we want to do is assist teachers to enable their students in this regard,” said Mr. MacDermot.

“Today’s students need to learn how to relate to the fast-shifting digital world around them, both educationally and socially. At the same, the role of the teacher must change from the traditional one to one where the teacher must also be a mentor and a guide, helping their students assess and interpret the information now available to them via the digital world.

“Modern technology is presenting our students and our children with both opportunities and challenges. What Alpha wants to do in this project is assist teachers in preparing to help their students meet those challenges and seize those opportunities,” said Mr. MacDermot.

Alpha’s head of US Schools content, Aaron Ashworth, said it was crucially important to equip teachers so they could prepare students for new realities. “The walls of the traditional classroom disappear when we integrate technology into education,” said Mr. Ashworth.

“Students have different learning styles and language proficiency — we will train educators to reach students at their level through differentiated instruction and teaching 21st Century Skills so they can achieve international standards in Math, Science and English Language Arts.

“It’s important to teach our students to safely navigate the Internet but also to recognize and analyze the information they find so that, crucially, they can differentiate between the relevant and irrelevant. In this way, we’re confident they can properly interpret the world around them and become effective, global, Egyptian citizens,” said Mr. Ashworth.
