Edureka is Upskilling the Tech Industry One Employee at a Time

The company aims to train the world's best IT talent

In the tech industry, the future is never far off. The industry is constantly transforming due to rapid innovations in big data technology, wireless innovation and the internet of things – and tech companies are failing to keep up with its growth. Finding talent capable of mastering emerging technologies has become a serious problem, with a tug of war playing out between the tech industry and academia as tech companies increasingly hire researchers and professors away from universities in an attempt to reel in the best in IT talent. So much so, in fact, that the Computing Research Association has said the proportion of computer science PhDs who remain in the academic realm has reached a “historic low” due to the high proliferation of tech companies seeking employees who are up to scratch on the latest technologies. But one e-learning platform is trying to change that, one student at a time. Its name is Edureka.

Founded in 2011 by Kapil Tyagi and Lovleen Bhatia, two tech gurus who between them have over 13 years’ expertise in technology, digital marketing, software engineering, mobile and consumer applications and growth hacking, Bangalore-based e-learning starting Edureka is on a mission to revolutionize the world of online education. When its founders realized there was a gaping mismatch between computer science academia and the industry itself, and it became glaringly obvious that the range of virtual courses available to IT professionals was failing to keep up with innovations in technology, Tyagi and Bhatia puts their heads together to find a solution. The result was a self-funded bootstrapped venture which, in the span of just three years, had become a $30 cr company and had registered a growth of 2768 percent. Since, the company has continued to expand and as of February 2016, Edureka had upskilled more than 250,000 online learners across 150 countries and delivered more than 50,000 hours of live classes to those seeking to gain new tech skills.

Offering over 85 live instructor-led courses with curriculum subjects ranging from big data to cloud computing, blockchain computing, AI, languages, mobile development, to AWS with DevOps, Edureka is helping teach professionals right around the world improve their skills using industry-aligned content to accelerate career growth. What sets it apart from other e-learning platforms is its specially curated team of experts who monitor the IT industry 24/7, incorporating industry demands and requirements into the syllabus as it evolves.

Edureka mightn’t be the biggest or the cheapest virtual education provider out there, but it is certainly the fastest growing and boasts the highest course completion rate in the industry, which is no small feat. The team attributes this to Edureka’s ability to monitor and preempt industry change and respond to resultant demand from its virtual clientele.

The Edureka team firmly believes that the future of education lies in technology, says founder and CEO Lovleen Bhatia. “In the professional education space that we operate in, new things keep happening every other week, and the industry expects to find qualified up-to-date professionals at the same pace. Only through technology can one overcome the challenges of traditional learning… Ed-tech allows you to up-skill on-the-go.”

Edureka’s mission is ambitious, albeit straightforward: To become the largest online learning ecosystem for continuing education, in partnership with corporates and academia. How does it intend to do this? By continuing to develop and improve its course offerings and platform for e-learners, through deploying a world-class team of industry experts who will stop at nothing to ensure the delivery of relevant, innovative course content to the big data community.
