Eastern European Leaders Hold Forum to Support a United Peaceful Korea

Chairman Lee Delivering his Speech

Students across Southern California had the opportunity to be audience members via livestream to a discussion between Eastern European leaders hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL) at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania.

The forum, titled “High-Level Meeting of Former Political Leaders in Europe to Spread the Culture of Peace and Call for Support for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea,” was moderated by Honorable Emil Constantinescu, the third president of Romania. Leaders shared factors that stabilized Eastern Europe after the tumultuous Cold War that could apply to uniting the Korean peninsula during this critical time.

California State University Fullerton fourth-year student Michelle Hudson was interested in attending the forum to learn how parallels between Korea and Europe could pave future paths of diplomacy. “I desire to see the Koreas unified and think HWPL is hosting a needed discussion at this time,” said Hudson.

In attendance at the forum was Hon. Rexhep Qemal Meidani, former president of Albania; Hon. Stanislav Stanislavovich Shushkevich, former chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Belarus; Hon. Stjepan Mesic, former president of Croatia; Hon. Viktor Yushchenko, former president of Ukraine; and Hon. Haris Silajdžić, former chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

HWPL Chairman M.H. Lee expressed the impact the unification of Korea would have on its international counterparts. “Currently our country [South Korea] is at a very crucial point. Achieving peace in the Korean peninsula will bring peace to the world.” Mr. Constantinescu echoed the importance of international discussion. "The great humanity conversation must now be encouraged so that larger groups of people can develop free flocks of ideas and knowledge worldwide. This vision can be developed only if representatives are able to act as a plurality of voices, questions and desires of billions of people participating in it.”

The second session of the program focused on HWPL’s main initiative, the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), a proposed body of international law consisting of 10 articles and 38 clauses that prohibits the root causes of war. Hon. Pravin H. Parekh, senior counsel of the Supreme Court of India, said, “Chairman Lee did whatever he could do for peace for the last five years. Since we gathered here to cease war and achieve peace, I believe each one of us will be able to influence the UN in adopting [the] DPCW.”

HWPL’s DCPW also stipulates the need for a culture of peace and the promotion of a peaceful coexistence amongst religious groups. According to this, HWPL has opened a series of peace forums in Ukraine, Germany, Sweden and Norway in collaboration with the government. In addition, members of city council, youth leaders and citizens in Germany and Sweden wrote “peace letters” to the leaders of Korea to express their support for reunification.

With more peace programs supported by international law, Chairman Lee believes these steps will create a peaceful world, especially for the Korean peninsula. “Wars will come to an end and peace will be achieved through 10 Articles and 38 Clauses of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW),” said Chairman Lee. “Please join us in leaving a legacy of the world without wars to our future generations.”

Chairman Lee’s visit to Romania is apart of his 27th world tour to meet with leaders, organizations and media to garner support for the DPCW international peace law. Through the forum discussion, European leaders gathered their hearts to ignite their hope for a united Korea.

“In the United States, we are in anticipation to see the results of their meeting and to share in Chairman Lee’s passion for peace,” said Hudson.
