E2NC 2011, The National Conference On Engineering Education
Online, April 26, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The 2nd National Conference on "Engineering Education in the New Century" (E2NC 2011) was organized by Sir J. C. Bose School of Engineering to pay tribute to the 150th birth anniversary of Acharya Rabindranath Tagore & Acharya P. C. Roy. Eminent Dignitaries and delegates from Universities, IIT's, DRDO etc were present at the conference. Students' Paper Contest was the key event of E2NC that glued students from various colleges to participate and present papers. Certificates were awarded to the meritorious candidates.
Doubts and questions are raised as to the viability of the way engineering has traditionally been taught, i.e. "one-size-fits-all" curriculum. Reports like 'The engineers of 2020: visions of engineering in the new century', 'Educating the Engineers of 2020: adapting engineering education to the new century', 'Re-engineering of engineering education for the challenges of the 21st century', etc. reveal that only 25% (even much less in many situations) of the engineering graduates are employable. And as such the reports have recommended a change of the structure of engineering syllabus and the need of benchmarking of an engineering degree as per the principles of Washington accord.
With this in view Sir J. C. Bose School of Engineering organized E2NC-2010, National Conference on "Educating the Engineers for the New Century: An Urgent Need of the Hour" in 2010. As a follow up they organized E2NC-2011, National Conference on "Engineering Education in the New Century". The theme of the conference was the relevance of "one-size-fits-all" syllabus for the engineering education in the changing scenario.
Organizers encouraged prospective authors to submit research and tutorial papers on various disciplines of engineering education. They also allowed school students to participate in some events like oral presentation and quiz contest.
The organizers got overwhelming response from various engineering colleges of West Bengal and schools. The students' paper contest was a key event of this conference where students from various institutes deliver their papers in front of eminent dignitaries. Certificates were awarded to outstanding presenters.
