Dr Tariq Drabu said “A recent article in the Journal of Science and Technology of Advanced Materials reported that non-bubble water could be the next prevention solution for those suffering from periodontitis. Periodontitis is a severe gum disease which over time causes the gum to separate from the tooth, causing pockets, a breeding place for unwelcome bacteria. If ignored, this gum disease can lead to tooth loss.”
Dr Tariq Drabu went on to say “The Tokyo Medical and Dental University along with Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology student the bacterial activity in nano-bubble water. They tested the water with periodontal bacteria to determine the outcome. The water showed an ability to kill the pathogens associated with periodontal disease. The number of patients with periodontal disease is constantly rising in the UK, so a new preventative measure will be welcomed at this stage.”
Dr Tariq Drabu closed in saying “All the tests were carried out in test tubes, but it has helped scientists determine that this could be a new avenue to investigate to find a preventative cure for periodontitis. Further research will be taking place over the next few years, which is such exciting news. Treating periodontitis is a detailed process which usually starts by scraping away plaque build-up using antiseptics and requiring the patients to take antibiotics, this new nano-bubble water research could be the solution dentists have been waiting for.”
