The author of 'the Simple Heart Care' which is an Amazon bestseller, said in one of his recent posts how there has been a substantial reduction in the number of death cases caused by heart diseases. Heart disease is the biggest killer in the US; however; the increasing awareness about early treatment and preventions is working positively.

One of Dr. Chauncey Crandall's missions in life is; to spread as much awareness as possible about heart disease prevention, considering that 80% of coronary heart problems are preventable. The cardiologist also mentioned the Mediterranean Diet, which is a healthy diet, helpful in cutting down the risk of cardiac problems. Recent studies found that the diet was helpful in cutting the rate of heart diseases by 35%, when monitored on 780 firefighters.

The field of cardiology keeps on advancing every day. One of the latest advancements that Dr. Chauncey Crandall discussed is the TAVR procedure. Before people had to go through open-heart surgery for getting new valves placed, now there is the option of transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

TAVR or TAVI implants repairs the valve, without invasive surgery. This tiny pacemaker is put inside the heart without the need of a surgery. It has no leads attached which reduce the chances of infection, substantially. Dr. Crandall also mentioned that with the new pacemaker, people won't have to bother about undergoing another surgery for battery replacement.

LVAD the acronym assist device for left ventricular, which used to be bulky and huge, is now becoming smaller in size. The device is used for people suffering from congestive heart failure. The new smaller and compact device is called 'impeller LVAD', which is placed in the heart with the help of a catheter without any intensive surgery.
