Downtown Plymouth Ice Cream Store Back Open Today After Tri County DKI Restoration Rushes to Fix Damage From Early-Morning Fire

Disaster relief company specializing in damage restoration reports to early-morning fire in downtown Plymouth, Michigan. Work completed helps to get business up and running by next day.

Plymouth, Michigan. Tri County DKI, a company that specializes in helping businesses quickly recover from the damage caused by fires, floods, smoke and mold, responded to a fire at 6:30 a.m., yesterday, Friday, February 24th. Crews worked round-the-clock to repair the damage caused when an unattended candle caught fire in the offices located above Kilwins Chocolate. Kilwins, located at 298 S. Main Street, which caught fire at 3:56 a.m. on February 24th, was able to reopen today.

According to Plymouth Police Sgt. Chris Lahtinen, no one was injured in the fire. However, the building itself underwent minor water, fire and smoke damage that threatened to cause a delay in reopening.

City manager Paul Sincock said the candle lit a wooden bookshelf, and the flames spread throughout the unit. Water, fire and smoke damage was contained to that business, Sincock said.

Upon responding to the call, the Tri County DKI crew worked closely with the building owner and the tenant (Kilwins Chocolate) to insure an effective plan was in place.

"It is our goal to not only restore the damaged property, but also to protect the building owner as well as the tenant and the tenant's business," said Ken Brown, President of Tri County DKI. "The building was back up and running this morning which drastically reduced loss of business for Kilwins and helped to protect the relationship between the tenant and building owner."

Tri County DKI, headquartered in Novi, Michigan is frequently called upon by Detroit area, and surrounding area, businesses to restore similar damages in buildings of varying sizes. In early February, the company announced the launch of their "Hotel Damage Restoration Services," citing that in addition to their usual offerings, they are equipped to handle large-scale buildings including commercial buildings, hotels, nursing homes and large scale residential properties.
