Downtown Clearwater Getting Ready for a Cleanup

Clearwater groups are working together for a cleaner and more beautiful downtown district.

On Saturday, 27 February, the City of Clearwater, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, the Church of Scientology and downtown businesses are working together to create a more sparkling downtown. This downtown Clearwater cleanup will start at 8:30am and go until 12pm. Volunteers are welcome to help.

Organizations are expecting an estimated 1,000 volunteers. They will gather for the Cleanup at Coachman Park. The City of Clearwater and Keep Pinellas Beautiful are providing supplies for the cleanup, including garbage bags, garbage pickers, gloves and pressure washers. Teams of volunteers will hit specific streets in the downtown District, within the zones of Drew Street and Pierce Street, and Myrtle Street and Osceola Ave.

“I recall when we were doing regular cleanups in the downtown area,” states Ed Clark, a local business owner, “This community activity for a cleaner downtown will be an asset to pulling more visitors and businesses to the core area.”

“Our founder, L. Ron Hubbard, emphasized the importance of safeguarding and improving the environment,” stated Jenny Webb, Community Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology. “We are excited to be part of this community activity in creating an even more beautiful downtown Clearwater.”
