Diversity Abroad Partners With the U.S. Department of State to Diversify Participation in Global Education and Exchange Opportunities

New Collaboration to Create Equitable Access to Global Education at U.S. Colleges and Universities

U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs

Diversity Abroad announces a new collaboration with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to diversify participation in global education and exchange programs, including study abroad and fellowships such as the Fulbright, the Critical Language and Gilman programs. The goal of this collaboration is to expand efforts to communicate the value and importance of international education and exchange opportunities to diverse communities; increase institutional capacity for education abroad; and provide guidance to domestic and overseas partners for developing inclusive practices to support diverse communities in international education and exchange.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the Department of State to ensure that the demographics of young Americans participating in international education and exchange programs reflects the rich cultural diversity of the United States” said Andrew Gordon, CEO & Founder of Diversity Abroad. “Many of the complex challenges and the vast opportunities that we face in the 21st century will take place on a global level. This partnership will pave the way for more young people from diverse communities to have immersive global educational experiences and gain the skills necessary to thrive in our interconnected world.”

“The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is committed to collaborating with innovative organizations to increase and diversify participation in study abroad,” said Assistant Secretary of State Evan Ryan.  “Given our shared interests, we believe this collaboration with Diversity Abroad will bolster our efforts to reach underserved audiences and build institutional capacity for U.S. study abroad.”

Students and young people from diverse communities continue to be underrepresented in international education and exchange programs. Diversity Abroad and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs have a shared vision to create equitable access to global educational experiences for young people from diverse backgrounds. This partnership is aimed at increasing participation in global education among diverse and traditionally underrepresented student populations.
