BOSTON, MASS. - Dhar Law, LLP (http://www.dharlawllp.com), today announced the first in its series of free community legal seminars. "Abuse Prevention: How to Get a Restraining Order" will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 6:30p.m. in conjunction with The Women's Center of Cambridge, MA.

The seminar will provide participants with an understanding of abuse and harassment and outline the procedure of applying for a restraining order. Further, in recognition of October as national Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a discussion of the relevance of protection orders for survivors of sexual violence will be incorporated.

"Prevention orders are one means by which survivors of intimate partner violence can seek relief, but women are often hesitant to seek this form of protection," says Lindsay E. Hoyle, Case Assistant at Dhar Law, who designed the program's curriculum. "In creating this seminar, we hope to increase access to prevention orders by educating women in the local community about the eligibility requirements and application process."

"Knowledge is power. The more you know about your rights, the more you can protect yourself. We hope that this seminar will educate women about what they can do if they are experiencing domestic violence, harassment, or other forms of abuse," says Ming Chang, Center Coordinator at The Women's Center.

"Abuse Prevention: How to Get a Restraining Order" is a first in a series of free community oriented seminars hosted by Dhar Law. The series will cover topics with day-to-day relevance, focusing on community entrepreneurship, domestic relations and foreclosure avoidance. The firm will be coupling each seminar with a free legal clinic, with experience attorneys on hand to give legal advice to the public.

"The Firm's community lawyering initiative is a result of the people who work here," says Jeffrey Poirier, Practice Manager at Dhar Law. "The attorneys and the staff are committed to giving back, and this free legal seminar series is one of the ways the Firm promotes their involvement."
