After taking metalsmithing classes on the side, Dominique, a doctor of physical therapy, found herself in the lucky position of being mentored by internationally known jeweler Chris Nelson. Known for discovering a way to fuse gold with steel to create richly contrasted, wearable art, Nelson taught her to start from scratch, melting metals at over 2,000 degrees to form sheets, then hand-hammering them into beautiful shapes. Dominique is a metalsmith, physical therapist, and mother to a wonderful and mischievous toddler. Like many moms, she works to do her part for the next generation. After reading about how arsenic and other chemicals are released into water sources during gold mining, she wanted to find a way to make beautiful work without this process.
