Dallas 'Artivist' Shyspeaks Highlights Herstory in the Making With New Video 'Wings' Featuring the Defending State Champion Desoto Eagles Girls Basketball Team
DALLAS, March 4, 2022 (Newswire.com) - Dallas lyricist and American hip hop/spoken word artist ShySpeaks (AKA Shy Amos) has graced the stages of many, alongside notable creators such as Ludacris, Jeezy, Tye Tribbett, GRAMMY award-winning artist Bun B and countless others. But this Women's History Month, she's using her talents to celebrate the DeSoto Girls Basketball program and their success. Sincerely Nicole Media was so excited to help team Shyspeaks coordinate this awesome project.
Inspired by the growing international conversation surrounding the disparities in women's sports and her own experiences as a former basketball player, it was a no-brainer when she had the opportunity to connect this high-spirited up-tempo anthem to this historic moment.
Her new music video "Wings" features the entire DeSoto Eagles Girls Basketball program while highlighting the varsity team that is defending their state championship title this weekend in San Antonio.
"Sometimes when you're in the midst of making history, you don't realize that's what you're doing until somebody stops to truly celebrate your accomplishments," said ShySpeaks. "I want these girls and coaches to be able to look back at this moment years from now and say, 'Wow we really did that and influenced Women's progress in a tremendous way.'"
The video includes footage from some of the team's best games, along with the scenes that took place in the DeSoto High School Gym, a cameo from the City's Mayor, Rachel L. Proctor, and Principal of DeSoto High School, Monica Smith. You can watch the video on Shy's YouTube channel and website shyspeaks.com.
The five-time award-winning Spoken Word Artist of the Year recently won the Outstanding Performance In Arts & Culture award from the City of Dallas. Moments like this show everybody why Shy treats the words artist, advocate and activist as one.
"Winning awards is always great, but it's truly something special when your own city recognizes the work you're doing. To know that I'm actually accomplishing my mission to be seen as an 'artivist' fills my heart," says Shy.
In addition to the music video, Shy has created special-edition merchandise that can be purchased on her website to support the DeSoto Girls Basketball program even further. A significant portion of the total sales will be donated directly to their booster club.
