Currux Vision Selected by the Texas Department of Transportation/Houston to Provide AI-Based Crosswalk Detection With Connected Vehicle Communication Technology

Currux Vision pioneers the deployment of industrial-grade AI to monitor and manage transportation infrastructure. The Currux Vision turn-key, integrated system includes the AI server that is designed, manufactured, and assembled in Texas, USA, all specifically designed for transportation infrastructure monitoring and management.

Currux Vision, the pioneer of AI-based Intelligent Transportation Systems ("ITS") and solutions company, together with its local distribution partner Tiger Traffic, today announced that it has been selected by TxDOT/Houston to deploy its AI-based ITS system to help protect vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and bicyclists, by providing Crosswalk Detection with Connected Vehicle technology. The system includes detecting intermodal conflicts in crosswalks, such as vehicles not yielding to pedestrians. As one of the largest DOTs in the U.S., the Texas Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining 80,000 miles of road and for supporting aviation, maritime, rail, and public transportation across the state.

Currux Vision delivers real-time, autonomous control systems for traffic management, including detection, big data analytics and alerts, connected vehicle infrastructure, and continuous machine learning using existing infrastructure. It can be used at the edge or in hybrid-cloud/cloud-based configurations that can work for any agency. The use of existing infrastructure creates significant ROI for agencies while delivering safety and efficiency for installation. In a recent independent test of leading providers of Crosswalk Detection, Currux Vision ranked the highest overall with accuracy at 98%, making it the top-rated provider for this set of services.

Texas-based Currux Vision is one of the very few industry players that is designing, manufacturing, and assembling its systems in the USA.

"Pedestrian and bicyclist deaths account for one in five of all traffic fatalities in Texas. Deploying this leading-edge technology is a step in implementing the TxDOT/Houston Smart City Vision Zero goals using game-changing technologies and data-driven decision-making, which will drive continuous improvement in how we serve our community, and to promote concrete benefits in safety, sustainability, economic opportunity, and quality of life for our residents," said Steve Chiu, TxDOT/Houston.

"We are honored to be selected by TxDOT/Houston to pioneer the use of industrial-grade AI in ITS and integrate it with Connected Vehicle technology.  The advent of smart AI-enabled technology that Currux Vision is building for transportation infrastructure will open vast new opportunities for integration with both connected and autonomous vehicles. We are very excited to see this innovation be put to use in our home state of Texas," said Alex Colosivschi, Founder and CEO of Currux Vision.
