Cult Education
Online, September 21, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Author Brenda Lee, "Out of the Cocoon," will be one of four women survivors featured in an episode of the documentary television series produced by Pangolin Pictures entitled "The Secret Lives of Women." The episode is airing throughout September on WEtv (Women's Entertainment).
"When I read Jaycee Lee Dugard's nationally televised story regarding her abduction by Philip Garrido at the tender age of eleven, my heart imploded. I understand the isolation and abuse she suffered and the long road to recovery she now faces. Children-those abducted by strangers and family members alike-have no voice. No one ever realizes they are voluntarily or involuntarily joining a "cult family," one led by an authoritarian, coercive leader, but there are millions held hostage by these destructive groups today. If I can help keep one family from splintering as mine did 35 years ago, every trauma I've endured will be worth it," observes Lee.
Lee concludes: "My ongoing goal is to raise awareness about how a simple encounter with someone who deceives and manipulates can and often does turn into something from which you can't escape without emotional ruin. Our relationship with family is irreplaceable. Unfortunately, any toxic cult or individual can steal our loved ones from us and that's why we need to understand how brainwashing works. Remember, people don't knowingly join cults; cults deceptively steal people away from their families."
Lee, a thought reform educator, has made a lasting impact on countless lives through her interviews/seminars and contact with thousands of abuse survivors worldwide.
